Join us for the Global 6k Run for Water

Global 6K is an annual 6km Walk/Run event organized by World Vision International to create awareness and raise funds for water. Offices across the world host the event same at their respective days and times.

World Vision Kenya is dedicating this year’s event to the children of Salgaa, Nakuru which is World Vision Kenya’s first locally funded Area Programme.

The situation: six schools in Salgaa lack clean water exposing children to waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, diarrhea, and typhoid. The majority of children attending Schools in Salgaa are from low-income households where access to clean water is also a major challenge, forcing them to sometimes skip school to search for water. The average distance to the nearest water points for most families is 5 to 6km.

What we are doing: So far, World Vision Kenya with support from staff, individual Kenyan donors, Corporates, and the Nakuru County Government has provided clean piped water to more than 350 homes in Salgaa and to one school. The need is still great; we need to reach more households and cover all six schools.

We intend to raise approximately KES. 4,500,000 to construct 30 cubic meter masonry tanks in the six schools each, to harvest rain water and help provide enough water for the schools.

How you can get involved: We invite you and your family to walk or run 6km with us on 17th June 2023 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am in the Karen neighborhood from. T-shirts for the run will be available for purchase at KES 2,000/- and all proceed will go towards bringing clean water to those who need it most in Salgaa, Nakuru.

Every step you walk is a step less for Salgaa children and communities in accessing clean water.
